CPAP THERAPY

For Sleep Apnea patients, SCNA can prescribe a Positive Airway Pressure device with a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Ventilator (CPAP). A CPAP device applies mild air pressure on a continuous basis to keep your airways open as you sleep throughout the night.

Once prescribed a CPAP, we can also help with resupply and replacements as needed, keeping the process simple so that you get better sleep without interruptions from sleep disorders.

SLEEP THERAPY TIPS

Fewer than 50% of patients stick with their prescribed sleep therapy.

Here are some tips to help you stick with your therapy and have the best experience with your CPAP device.

Consistency

Using a CPAP device may be uncomfortable at first, but consistent use is vital to ensure you see the benefits. Like any healthy habit or treatment, it may take time to get used to!

Cleaning

Regularly cleaning your CPAP equipment, especially where the mask touches your face, is an important part of device maintenance. Doing so will ensure the longevity and effectiveness of your equipment.

Equipment

Finding a mask that works for you can make a huge difference. Our staff can help with sizing and picking out a mask that fits your needs. We carry a wide variety of masks that accommodate side-sleeping, mouth-breathing, and more, as well as cushions and liners to improve comfort and eliminate leaks.

Comfortability

Adjusting how you sleep and where the CPAP tube resides on the bed can make a difference with comfort. A CPAP tube can sometimes get in the way especially if you typically toss and turn during sleep.

Replacements

Parts of your CPAP mask will naturally wear out over time with regular use. Therapy will become less effective with leaks as well, so be sure to replace parts as needed. For example, if your mask feels loose, it is time for a new cushion and headgear. You are welcome to visit SCNA during daytime business hours for replacements.

Humidify

A humidifier can help prevent your nasal passages from drying out. A glass of water and some saline spray by the bed are also useful to have on hand.
